LYMPSTONE C of E PRIMARY SCHOOL,   GOVERNORS’ NEWSLETTER  ~  MARCH 2009

Since the last Governors’ Newsletter, the Governing Body has met twice, and each of our committees at least once, so we have much to report on progress and change in our school.  Primarily of note is the fact that our school continues to grow and change, and we now have some 159 pupils on roll, which is very pleasing.  We welcome those pupils who have recently joined us, and their families to our school, and we hope that you will be happy here.  It is really encouraging that Lympstone C of E Primary School remains popular, and we are pleased to welcome new pupils throughout the school year.

Many exciting trips and activities have taken place this term, ranging from visits to a Tudor Priory to Castles and the Christmas Pantomime at the Northcott Theatre.  Pupils and parents have raised money for a variety of charities and both the netball team and cross-country squad have performed really well this year.  Our thanks to all those who support our school activities, and to the staff who facilitate all these enriching activities and make ours such an active school.

The present Government is injecting much needed finance into Primary School buildings across Britain and the fund for Devon schools is being allocated under a programme called “Strategy for Change”.  In our efforts to secure funding, the Head teacher and Governors have worked hard to prepare a persuasive document extolling our strengths and highlighting our particular areas of need.  Our visitors were very impressed by the school, and complimented us on our successes.

We had hoped to secure funding for the purchase of the Church Room land adjoining the school grounds, and from there, to improve and develop our facilities.  However, at this stage, Lympstone C of E Primary School is not deemed to be in sufficient need for immediate finance, and it seems that the opportunity to purchase the Church Room site will not be taken up by DCC.  Whilst this is disappointing, Governors are never without plans and ideas, so we are turning our attention to the possible replacement of Class 4 at the very bottom of the site, with a view to install better facilities and to make all our school buildings fit for purpose in the 21st century.

The membership of the Governing Body has also changed since October, and we have been very pleased to welcome two new Parent Governors, Diane Adams and Sarah Watts, both of whom have a great deal to bring to their new role, and will serve as excellent parent representatives.

Please feel free to discuss our work with any of the committee, and I hope that you have an enjoyable Easter break.
