FIND OUT MORE ABOUT FUNDING

In the past the Herald received criticism for not supplying current information on openings, grants or courses i.e. the closure date has been either past or too immanent.  Below is an extract from an East Devon publication – The Knowledge – which could reveal an opportunity for YOU. The three below are all open to all living in East Devon and the deadlines for applications are all at least a month off.

Safer Homes

The Safer Homes Fund from the Home Office has grants available of between £10,000 and £100,000 to voluntary and community sector organisations for community led initiatives and programmes which will reduce burglary and improve neighbourhood security. The funding is for a wide variety of initiatives including individual workers offering vulnerable people free/ low cost handy work, the training of local handy people and projects/ events that bring the community together. The closing date for applications is 31 July.

Sport

Sport England has grants of between £10,000 and £500,000 available to help find and nurture genuine breakthroughs that will transform the way community sport looks and feels. The programme is open to all bona-fide organisations including sports clubs, local authorities, education establishments, social enterprises, voluntary and community groups. The fund will invest in new ideas and solutions that will reach a whole new audience and provide better, more exciting opportunities to a wider range of people who might normally not be interested in sport. The deadline for applications is 10 August. Phone 08458 508508 for more information.

Learning

The Government Transformation Fund has grants available for opening up and promoting informal learning for adults and young people. Public, private and third sector organisations can apply from all backgrounds including culture, heritage, nature, sport, health and so on. The aim is to encourage more people into learning, in particular people from disadvantaged groups and involving people in new places at new times. The deadline for applications is 12 July.

Lympstone Parish Plan

We need See full size imageyour views

Lympstone Parish has faced in the past changes, challenges, threats and opportunities.  As a community the parish has seen these through and responded to them to deliver the “Lympstone Way of Life” we all know and love today.

No less in the 21st Century our community faces new challenges; crime, social change, the urban sprawl of Exmouth, climate change, government intervention to name just a few.  In order to meet these challenges we need a planned approach, one that comes from the community, is owned by the community and is for the community.

To this end the Parish Council agreed a year ago to sponsor a Parish Plan – to be owned by the parishioners.  A steering group was formed and we consulted parish organisations to get their input to the plan.  It draws together all the aspirations of our community, synthesizing them so that the sum becomes greater than the individual parts.  As a product of the community as a whole, rather than a Parish Council sub-committee, the Parish Plan has real power and authority as a statement on behalf of Lympstone – and will have a greater impact on external authorities.  The role and structure of local government is changing.  Higher tier authorities are to be reorganised and they will be expected to consult more with local communities.  The Parish Plan will provide a clear statement of Lympstone’s aspirations as a community to whichever new local authority the village must relate to.

To clubs and societies the Parish Plan can be the basis for bids for funding for local initiatives – as a product of the community it demonstrates the commitment of the parish to the project seeking funds.

The Steering Group has produced a draft plan and this has been endorsed by the Parish Council, but it is not complete.  We now need your input, the views, hopes and aspirations of the members of the parish.  I hope that our consultations to date have resulted in a plan that meets with the majority of your views and expectations – however I know that there may be items that you do not support or that you will feel we have omitted.

How to get a copy of the Draft Parish Plan

To save money and paper we are trying to keep the number of printed copies of the draft plan to a minimum so to view it please go to www.lympstoneparishplan.wikispaces.com   Here  you will find the parish plan, evidence statements and a form for letting us have your comments.  For those who cannot access the internet there will be a limited number of paper copies available from Lympstone Post Office along with the response forms.

Public consultation days

We are holding two public consultation days:

Friday 26th June from 10.00 to 16.00 Committee Room of the Village Hall

Saturday 27th June from 10.00 to 16.00 Methodist Hall

Please come along and see the displays, supporting evidence/documents and talk to members of the Steering Group over a cup of tea or coffee.  You are welcome to complete and hand in your response forms at these meetings.   If you cannot make these meetings then hand your forms into the Post Office or Post them through the door of 1 The Old Bakery, The Strand opposite the Post Office.

But be sure to do it before the close of consultation on 3rd July!
