John Eaton-Terry POLICE In the early hours of the morning on the 8th September a property in Underhill had its window smashed. If anyone has any information regarding this matter, please call the police on the numbers listed below, quoting KE/08/2669 I am disappointed to report that between 2nd Oct. and 3rd Oct, a number of vehicles were broken into and had property stolen. This took place in the areas of Underhill car park, Glebelands and Station Hill car park. Damage was caused to all vehicles in the process. If anyone has any information, saw or heard anything suspicious or have found any property lying around the village, which could have come from a vehicle, please contact the Police or contact me on the details below. I would remind all car owners to secure their vehicles when leaving them unattended and not to leave any property in the vehicles. In the early hours of the 3rd Oct. a vehicle was stolen from a property on Exeter Road and was found abandoned in Glebelands. If anyone has any information or saw anything suspicious, please contact the Police on the numbers below, quoting KE/08/2906. I am looking for a Deputy Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator in the Birch Road area of Lympstone to support Mr Breary who is the co-ordinator. If anyone is interested in this supporting role and would like more information, please contact me. I would like to thank Mr Breary and all the other Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators for their hard work. Halloween is fast approaching and is always a very busy night for the Police service. I would recommend that parents accompany their children if they are planning on going trick or treating and to remind all children not to call on the elderly or vulnerable. Shops and businesses always support the police during this time by not selling eggs or flour, as this seems to be the favoured “trick”. It is always lovely to see the children in their costumes enjoying some harmless fun, but please be aware that for some Halloween can be a frightening night. Emergency: 999, General

Electoral registration online
You can vote in elections only if your name appears in the Register of Electors. A new version of the register is published on 1 December each year and you can make sure your name is on it by post or online. Whether you are 18 or 88, it’s important to ensure that you have the right to vote. There are so many economic and social issues that you can influence through the ballot box: Could my school be better run? Have I got a chance of a good job? Are there buses or trains that will run on time and get me to work? Will I be able to find somewhere to live that I can afford? All these are questions that YOU can influence if you vote and then lobby your local councillor or MP. But, your name must be on the register of electors in order for you to vote. Between September and November each year, a canvass is undertaken and registration forms are sent to every household. By law, these must be returned with details of everyone living at the property who is eligible to register and who will be resident at that property on 15 October. Electoral registration officers also ask for 16 and 17-year-olds to be included on the form as it is possible that they will become 18 during the life of the next register. If that is the case, their names will appear on the register showing the date on which they will become 18. If an election is called on or after that date, that person will be eligible to vote. The register can also be updated with new details at any time from November to August by downloading a registration form, filling it in and sending it back to the address at the bottom of the form, or by sending us an enquiry through the Online Enquiry Form. We will accept completed forms returned to us as an email attachment or by fax; you do not need to follow up with the original. Details are on the form. If you have any questions, please ring our Helpline on (01395) 517 402 In December 2006, there were 104,889 people in East Devon registered to vote. In December 2007, 105,655 people were registered to vote. Copies of the register are available for public inspection at the Council Offices, Knowle, Sidmouth and The Town Hall, Exmouth. Electoral registration by internet You can register online if: 1. There are no changes to your registration details. 2. You want to apply for a postal vote. 3. You want to exclude your names from the "Edited Register" which can be bought by anyone. Please ensure you have your security code handy (it is printed in the top right hand box of your registration form). It is completely secure and only the Electoral Registration staff have access to your security code and the information provided. To access the registration web site, please go to: https://www.registerbyinternet.com/EastDevon/default.aspx If there are any additions, deletions or other changes to the printed details, please do not use this method; please return the printed form by post. Extract from EDDC The Knowledge LISTED HOUSES Do you live in a listed building? If so, read on..... . You will probably know that the Lympstone Historic Houses Group is preparing a ‘history’ of each listed house to be given to the homeowner. We have completed nearly a quarter so far and are busy now working through the rest. We want the individual histories to include as much relevant detail as possible. So we would be very pleased to hear from you about any information or photos you have which you think might be worth including. We are particularly interested in architectural features, for example a Dutch tile chimney, a sliding window or old screen, but we are keen also to include interesting anecdotal or other information about, for example, earlier occupants of your house -- provided its not libelous! So if you would like to offer any information or pictures, or simply want to know more about our work, please be in touch with Helen Dimond (233433) or Rosemary Smith (266113). We would especially like to hear from you if you live in one of the following houses: Vine Cottage, Sowden Cottage, 1,2 and 3 Bridge Cottages, Haymore Thatch, Town Dairy Cottage, Middlecombe Cottage, Cliffe Cottage, Exe View House, Ferndale, Greenhill, Higher Greenhill, 1 and 2 Lower Harefield Lodge, Oak Cottage, Osborne House, Strand House, and Bellhangers. 21st August saw the club’s final game of the season at Woodbury, with the opposition provided by Faber Maunsell of Exeter. Batting first, the opposition were limited to a total of 67 for 8, with all the runs coming at the top of the order and wickets shared equally among the Lympstone attack, who bowled economically and on target. An athletic close-in catch by Paul Jordan, performing a gymnastic manoeuvre complete with tuck and half pike to take the ball in his fingertips, was a highlight of Lympstone’s tight fielding display. In reply, the Lympstone innings got off to a solid start with opener Jamie Cooke’s accumulative batting, before a mystery bowler wreaked a trail of destruction in the middle order, extracting pace and bounce to claim four wickets in quick succession. Total collapse was only averted by the timely intervention of Charlie Lenygon and Ben Ingham, who steered the team to victory with an over to spare. With the season disrupted by horrendous weather, the club can be more than happy with an overall performance much improved on last year - two victories, three losses and two tied games. The team can be sure that continued success awaits in the 2009 season - weather permitting! Ollie Creighton FURRY DANCE AND FETE Mulled Wine Xmas Fair, which will be on November 29 in the Globe Inn.
