PIANIST NEEDED
Jamie, who lives at Tedstone House, has been preparing for a career in theatre from a young age. After finishing his study at The Leeds College of Music, he was awarded an unconditional place at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London to study Musical Theatre. Jamie is not taking up the place immediately, and whilst working to raise the required funds, is also trying to maintain his vocal training routine. He would be extremely grateful if anyone willing offer their skills on the piano, to assist his rehearsal of material (paid), could get in touch. 276763 | 07971 401972 | j.yeo@live.co.
Help change a child’s life Thank you to everyone who took part in the NSPCC Big Bike Ride that I organised back in the summer (what summer?!) we raised £221.07. Next April I am running the Flora London Marathon in aid of the NSPCC; it is an enormous challenge for me and is likely to cause me some fairly intensive pain, but the pain will go away and I will recover. For many of the country’s abused and neglected children it won’t go away unless we help them and to that end I am trying to raise as much money as I can for them. If you would like to show your support there are a number of ways that you can do so - I have a website justgiving/beckspearson.co.uk where you can make a donation, there is a sponsorship form in the Post Office alongside a collection box for any spare change you might have, or please just support one of the events I am hoping to organise in the village over the coming months. Also please give Lulu (the dog) and me a wave if you see us out running and if you like you can follow her training diary on the internet at www.realbuzz.com/?pageID=1997&blog=10251 – we will keep you informed of our progresss - thank you for your support. If you would like to take part, please contact Harland Walshaw on 263 928 by 21st October. Harland Walshaw READER’S LETTER Sir, Re your Editorial in the Sept issue, may I contribute some observations on the current process of local government "consultation" ? Firstly, the sham consultation process over local government reorganisation has closed and we are to await the "careful" decision of Hazel Blears as to what form of local government is to be accepted as though the decision was really all ours ! Some of the councils have let the cat out of the bag by saying that they did not seek reorganisation, but it was imposed on them by central government. Why was that the case ? The imperitive was due to the commitment made by governments, Tory and New Labour, under the terms of the Maastricht and Nice Treaties, to deliver a system of elected regional government to suit the EU system of regional government. The EU governs through the regions as it’s full name indicates - The European Union of the Cities and Regions, and Westminster is gradually relinquishing its power and responsibility in parallel with this process. The original plan had been to develop elected regional assemblies to meet that commitment, but John Prescott "pooped" on that one, and now Hazel Blears has been passed the poisoned chalice. Ben Bradshaw has been made the SW Regional Minister and in due course, we will have a system of elected unitary authorities which will deemed to be the de facto regional governments - fait accompli !! I can see nothing to stop this happening, but it is important that people understand why it is happening and remember that at the EU elections next June. What is being implemented is unwanted, un-necessary and designed merely to satisfy an alien EU system of regional government, and at vast cost. You have been warned - government is being moved further, not closer, from the people to make it easier for the bureaucrats - have you ever voted for that to happen?
