ITEMS OF NOTE from the Parish Council Meeting Lympstone Compost Lympstone Composting Scheme Committee members attended the Parish Council meeting to discuss the long term future of this worthwhile scheme. They were supported by Nicky Scott, the Devon Community Composting Coordinator. Nicky has experience of similar schemes across Devon and is very pleased with the way that the Lympstone Scheme works. There is plenty of compost for sale. It is all derived from the village and if it is used in the village, this will help keep the scheme going and will keep our carbon footprint low. It is also very good compost. The meeting heard allotment holders confirm that it had helped win prizes this year! Earlier problems of seed content have been largely overcome. To order your compost contact Jenepher Allen on 275538. Allotments The Parish Council heard that the allotments are as popular as ever and that there is a waiting list. The meeting heard about the way in which the allotments are run and possible changes to the Trust that operates the allotments, to bring it up to date. The Parish Council is keen to support the Allotment Association in this very popular village activity. Grants to local Groups. The Parish Council has approved its grants to various local organisations. Cheques will be sent out in the next week. This is an important way in which the Parish Council can support any of the Groups in the Village. Availability of Grants has been advertised in the Lympstone Herald and on the Notice Boards. If you didn't apply this year, why not think about this for next year. Gulliford Dissenters Cemetery There is to be another Work Party at the cemetery at 10.30 on Saturday 18th October 2008 to prepare the area for the winter and to consider grounds maintenance for next year. There seems to be a general view that the specification could be improved to make the area more welcoming. Your views and your help to improve this historic part of the area would be welcome. No particular skills are needed, just some enthusiasm. Councillors
Surgery The last Surgery was held on Saturday 20th September when the main topic of comment was about the proposed Refuse Collection scheme. This will bring wheelie bins to most properties in the village. The Parish Council is keen to help with this by identifying those properties or residents that could not cope with a wheelie bin. If this applies to you or someone you know, please let Cllr Rob Longhurst know (tel 263495) The Parish Council is also keen to make sure that the Village Conservation Area and pleasant ambience is protected and that some areas do not become a Bin Store Clerk to the Council: A J Le Riche, DMS FROM THE EDITOR MINOR ITEMS FROM THE PARISH COUNCIL MEETING Allotments (2) I am glad that the allotment trustees are, with the help of a solicitor, rewriting their constitution. Hopefully this should help them answer some of the criticism people have made. For example “pleasure garden” is a very legal usage of an allotment. Owner subletting isn’t. Selling produce isn’t. Lympstone residents should get precedent. The Parish Council said that they did not want to get involved. Calling the police The delay in the police answering their General Enquiries: 08452 777 444 number was reported by 2 people who had first hand experience of delays of more than 10 and 20 minutes respectively. Don’t mess about, ring 999 immediately if you see or hear anything suspicious. Waste “Facilities have been placed in the Committee Room to enable the Parish Council meetings to have a pause for tea, coffee, or soft drinks.” This is an extract from the Village Hall item later in this Herald. Do you share my feelings about making long meetings longer at our expense? I thought the Village Hall was short of money? The public usually have to wait more than two hours before being allowed to say anything at Parish Council meetings – why drag out their suffering.
