Next PAGE 4 FURRY DANCE XMAS EVENT Our annual Furry Dance Festive Mulled Wine & Mince Pie Morning will be at the Globe on Saturday 1 December from 10am. There will be a raffle, cake stall, novelties & gifts to buy as well as lovely mulled wine and mince pies. Everyone welcome. Feedback from this year's Furry Dance and Fete was that it was one of the best yet and there were certainly hundreds of you enjoying yourselves in the brilliant August sunshine. The Furry Dance Committee would like to thank everyone who helped make the day a success particularly our sponsors, supporters and others who made financial contributions, which will go towards an even better event next year.
LYMPSTONE FILM SOCIETY Our second Friday Film Night was again a sell-out when the colourful Spanish film VOLVER proved a popular choice. LFS has plans for activities involving Lympstonians at both ends of the age range: we have had conversations with youth club leaders and hope to be able to announce the outcome before long. But we are also keen to see if we can do something for those elderly folk who can't, are don't feel inclined, to come to our evening shows. So in the new year we are considering a series of matinee showings of suitable films, with transport laid on if necessary - PROVIDED THE IDEA GETS A SUFFICIENT RESPONSE. We will shortly be in touch with the appropriate village organisations about this; meanwhile, if you want to register an interest, please don't hesitate to telephone me on 277501. VILLAGE HALL 5 YEAR PLAN We reported in the May Herald, the Five-Year Plan which was conducted via the Village Organisations and its subsequent development into a Big Lottery bid for funds to extend and refurbish the Village Hall. We now wish to bring you up to date with what has happened. Before we do the final collation of views on the Five-Year Plan we would like to ensure that our survey has been as inclusive as possible. The Management Committee would like to hear from anyone who feels that their views have not been put forward. If you have a neighbour who lives alone or has disabilities, perhaps you could help them put their views forward, if they wish. A briefing document containing prompts is available from the Secretary, to whom comments should be sent. (Brian Ridge, 9 Underhill Crescent, Telephone: 275432). The Big Lottery have advised us that the final decision on Stage 1 funding will be delayed to December 2007. 1,600 Applications were received to the Community Buildings Programme. In order that Villagers can make their views felt about the proposed extension and refurbishment of the Village Hall, an Open Meeting will be held on Friday 16th November in the Committee Room at 7.30 pm. You are cordially invited to come and hear about the plans, review them with us, and give us your suggestions and opinions. This is your chance to voice your opinion on what Lympstone Village Hall should be like in the 21st Century. See you there! Brian Ridge WI The Secretary, Joyce Perry took our meeting as Jo Cotton, the President, was unable to join us until later. The minutes of the last AGM were read and approved, followed by the President's, Treasurer's and Social Secretary's reports. Jill Hearn read in rhyme a review of the Drama Group's activities during the year. The President and Treasurer were re-elected for a further year; Joyce Perry was thanked for her services as she retired and the seven committee members willing to serve were introduced. The Secretary will be appointed from the Committee and two more committee members would be welcome. After tea the Drama Group entertained us with four excellent sketches - "The holiday that went wrong" set on a health farm, "Have a nice trip" and "The Committee meeting at Meadowsweet" (these latter two being written by our own members - Margaret Green and Dorothy Livingston), and ended with a WI version of Ronnie Corbett's classic sketch " We all know our place". Ruth Wilson thanked the Drama Group for another excellent performance. Dates for the Diary: Group Carol Service at Withycombe Village Road at 2.30 on Monday 3 Dec. Names to Anne Frampton ASAP for WI Dinner at the Swan on Weds. 15 Jan Jams, cakes, chutneys etc. for Hospice Coffee morning at the Swan on 15 Dec (10.30 am) Our next meeting on 5 December is the Members' meeting with Christmas tea. Sybil Bextor 274150 Lympstone Garden Club News A very well attended A.G.M. was held in the Function Room on the 30th October followed by a wonderfully informative talk by Mr Dennis Lane, County Cricket Pitch Advisor. The information he gave on the care and maintenance of our lawns was not only extremely helpful but fascinating to listen to. Once a month we have specially arranged talks in the Function Room of the Village Hall. Not only Friends of the Garden Club but everyone in the village is invited to attend these evenings. The next two events are: Wednesday 21 November 7.30pm - The Veitch Nurseries of Exeter & Devon - An Illustrated Talk by Mr Caradoc Doy, Horticulturist Wednesday 12 December 7.30pm - A Fresh Look at Christmas Decorations A Practical Workshop led by Lympstone's Mary Strouts.
