FOOTBALL   CLUB

Dear villagers, this is just a short note to thank all of you who come up and support our youth team on Saturday mornings and our two adult teams in the afternoons. Please note that with the clocks going back, afternoon kick-offs from November through until the end of February move from 3pm to 2.15pm.

Hopefully those of you who have come up and watched this season will have enjoyed what has been on offer and this is in no small measure down to the arrival of our two new managers, Nick James and local boy Andy Tanton who run the 1st and 2nd teams respectively. They have brought in several new players who have blended in effortlessly with the existing talent that we already had at the club and now includes a particularly exciting crop of youngsters.

If you've not come up to see us play before, do come up and have a wander around the touchline. You never know, you might stay longer than you planned!!

Chris Gooding. (Chairman)

 Parish Church

This copy of the Herald may just reach you in time to attend the Remembrance Service on Sunday 11th November at 9.45 am.  Note the later start than the normal Sunday service.  The service ends with a procession to the War Memorial for 11 o’clock.

The monthly coffee morning will be from 10 am to noon on Tuesday 27th November.   For venue, and other information about the church, the notice board under the railway arch is up-to-date (usually!)

Thinking ahead to December, there will be no Family Service on the 9th.

Early December starts off the season of Advent and through the month the Advent candles are lit .  There are four, one for each week leading up to Christmas when we have candlelit services.  Please look for posters and a notice under the railway arch about Christmas services.

The carols around the village with members of the Lympstone Band or the alternative group lead by John Welton will be on Saturday 22nd December as near as we can to the great day.  We hope there will be the customary huge turn out to sing the carols.

  POLICE MATTERS

You may or not be aware that we have recently had a couple of burglaries in Lympstone over the last few weeks.  First of all I would like to reassure you that Lympstone is a safe village and these types of incidents are rare.  However this is a good time to remind everyone to think about their security and ensure that you keep your doors and windows locked, sheds and garages secured. If anyone would like a property marking kit, please contact me on the details below and I will be happy to drop one round when I am next in the village.  If anyone has any information regarding these burglaries, please call 08452 777 444 quoting KE/07/3245 or KE/07/3253.

We have recently had a spate of car crime in the rural villages of East and Mid Devon.  Just a gentle reminder to all Lympstone residents to make sure that you secure your vehicle when leaving it unattended and do not leave any valuables on display in the car.  If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, please call the police.

I would like to thank all car owners for their continued support regarding the parking on Chapel Hill.  If we can continue the good work and ensure that no vehicles are parked in the area between the hours of 0500 – 1200 on Mondays.

If anyone is interested in setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in the village or would like a home security check, please contact me on 0845 6567853 or email: sarah.trayhurn@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk .

CHARITY APPEAL

My name is Mark Thompson, I have lived in Lympstone for the last 9 years, most people will know me as 'Mark the pharmacist'. On December 5th I will be taking part in the Everest Marathon. We spend the first 16 days trekking from Lukla to Gorak Shep then on the 17th day complete the 26.2 mile race from Gorak Shep(5184m) to Namche Bazaar(3446m). I am hoping to raise money for 4 charities, Macmillan, Devon Air Ambulance, Lympstone Global Aid Fund and the Everest Marathon Fund. Online donations go to Macmillan, the others will be split. I and the charities would be very grateful for any donations. You can either donate online at www.justgiving.com/markthepharmacist or ring 275260. Thank you so much for your help.

The 'Avocet Line' through Lympstone has its own Rail Users' Group. This now has 60 members, many from Lympstone.   The group works to get better facilities, including trains, information boards and connections at Exeter and hopes to improve the look of stations through an adoption scheme. The next committee meeting, open to all members, is at the Globe Hotel in Topsham at 7pm on Monday 19th November.  You can join by contacting Richard Giles on 263930, at a committee meeting, or through http://avocetlinerailusers.wikispaces.com/.

Two important pieces of information about local trains: from December 10th there will be an extra early morning train to Exmouth at 6.24 and to Exeter at 6:52 (arriving Central 7.13 and St David's 7.17).

The next week long closure of the line, in order to upgrade track, will commence Saturday 16th February.

 Amenities Committee

Thank you for your comments: we will try to keep you up to date.

Update on last month.

We have receive contradictory views as to whether the Great Oak in Candy’s Field can be saved and it seems the only option will be to seek an independent report before we go to tender. The fence has now been installed along The Rag hedge by Peter Acca and Jim Bailey

To all who responded to our request for volunteers to help with footpaths maintenance, our thanks; we now have a pool of 16 villagers willing and able to help. This offer is really important as it gives added weight to our negotiations and added incentive to complete our plans and reach agreement with DCC.

Candy’s Field

Apart from the oak tree there are a number of issues we are addressing. Emptying of the bin in the play area. A solution was approved at Monday nights council meeting and a proposal will be put to the Play Group this week. What should be done with the cycle humps? All who attend the Youth Club will be asked what they would like before any proposals are formulated. Should we plant additional trees and if so where?

Who owns the hedgerows surrounding the field and who is responsible for their maintenance?

Environment

Three issues were discussed this month. Surface water flooding

We don’t have any plans in place to deal with emergencies; where we think the risk is greater than the risk to the lower village from the sea. Brian Cotton has kindly agreed to take this project on and a start will be made to identifying the risks and likely

Locations of incidents

Any historic information would be very much appreciated, so please get in touch.

Recycling

We continue to be concerned that the household collection won’t take plastic or cardboard and we will be writing to EDDC to ask what is happening to resolve this issue.

Bonfires

We have had a number of complaints recently and just wanted to remind you to be considerate of your neighbours. EDDC Environmental Health guidelines remind us that smoke nuisance is an offence and that composting or transport to recycling centres is a better way of dealing with garden waste.

The Amenities Team are: Peter Acca, Jane Moffatt, Jim Bailey, Brian Cotton and Miles Freeman.
