100 WORDS FROM EACH OF THE PARISH COUNCIL APPLICANTS

For the last five years I have produced the Lympstone Herald, taking it from a few hand typed pages to the sixteen page magazine and web site which I hope you enjoy every month and which yields £1000 a year in advertising for the village. For most of this period I have also been a member of the Parish Council – sitting on the Planning and various other committees. I am a Devonian and do not wish to see Devon and Lympstone in particular over-developed. Please vote for me in the Parish Council Elections on the 22nd of November.

Chris Carter

My name is Phil LEGGE and I am standing as one of the candidates.

If elected, I will tackle local issues on a strictly non political basis, putting the interests of the people of Lympstone first.

Over the next few years, Lympstone will continue to change, as every community does. I want to make sure that happens in a positive way. Any changes in our village must be for the better, not just for changes sake. We need to make sure Lympstone retains its identity as the beautiful village we all know.

Many of the readers of this publication will not know who I am and this is not the time or place to try and correct that.  Suffice it to say that I am a firm believer in the democratic process and here is an opportunity for the entire village to exercise their right and to go out and vote.  In the next weeks you will learn about all of us and have time to make up your minds, but I know that each of us would echo the sentiment – “Use your vote” – it’s so important!

Postal Scam

Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail.  The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.
If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.  If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at  www.icstis.org.uk

A NEW BOOK FOR CHRISTMAS FROM HARLAND WALSHAW

Devon’s Churches, A Celebration, is an illuminating book providing insight into the beauty and history of our local churches. John Lane provides evocative descriptions and Harland Walshaw the atmospheric black and white photographs of the treasures they contain – everything from bench ends to stained glass windows.

This beautifully presented book which includes 240 photographs can be enjoyed from the comfort of an armchair. It also creates the desire to go and visit and look at the amazing beauty of the churches in Devon and see firsthand the details which Harland captures so excellently in his photographs. Copies are available from Lympstone Post Office.

Primary School PTFA

Our Christmas Fair this year will be at Sat 17th Nov. at 2.30 pm in the Village Hall.  There will be lots of stalls for you to buy some Christmas gifts as well as games and crafts for the children.  We have even asked Father Christmas to come along!  Please come along and support us for an enjoyable family afternoon.

School Playground - The PTFA, in partnership with the school, are funding a re-development of the school play area in front of school house.  Work is underway and due to be completed by the end of November.  There will be a new open play area and an all weather surface with new play equipment. Thank you to everyone who has come along to events to make them a success and therefore make this possible.  We are very proud of being able to provide this new play area for our village school.
